Foundation Donates Old-School Clocks For Tuckahoe Appeal

TUCKAHOE – David Anthony Pope hopes the two new clocks in Tuckahoe’s Depot Square will further enhance the village’s beauty and the “small-town, Norman Rockwell-feel” of the downtown area.

Pope is president and CEO of the Generoso Pope Foundation, which donated the money for the clocks. Pope said he was approached by the Tuckahoe Beautification Committee about replacing the four “dial” clocks installed 17 years ago in Tuckahoe’s Depot square and Crestwood business district.

“One of the things we’re trying to do here in Tuckahoe is make it the kind of family-friendly community that it should be, and this donation is one of the ways that the village aesthetically can appeal even more to the residents,” Mayor Michael Martino said.

Each cost about $15,000, Martino said. Martino said fixing up the village encourages residents to walk around and enjoy the beauty of the small village. “We thought it was a good idea to donate the money to replace the clocks, we’ve done a lot here, it’s a great, family-oriented village,” Pope said.

Martino said the Generoso Pope Foundation has taken care of the aesthetic as well as safety in the village, including assisting fire and police with emergency equipment and training.
“The Generoso Pope Foundation is continually investing in our village and sending a very clear message that they care about Tuckahoe,” Martino said.
