GE Recipient of Foundation Funds for Equipment
The Generoso Pope Foundation of Scarsdale has presented Guiding Eyes for the Blind, headquartered in Yorktown, with a gift of $30,000. Designated to purchase a Braille printer and four computer workstations, the funds will significantly enhance GEB’s Adaptive Technology Program.
The Braille printer is earmarked for the local Training Center; two of the workstations will be available for students at the Center and two at the new facility in White Plains. Appropriate software also will be purchased.
The printer will produce Braille magazines, books, and newspapers. Guiding Eyes students and graduates, as well as GEB admissions, Training and Alumni departments, will benefit form the material produced, which will include brochures, training material, handbooks and program-and-activity-related information.
Each of the labs will have four-user workstations that will enable students to have experience in performing common office tasks such as word processing, Internet access and document scanning and processing Speech output and screen enlargement also will be available at each.
