Hospital Gets $1 Million Dollar Gift

BRONXVILLE – Lawrence Hospital has received a $1 million donation for the renovation of is Department of Emergency Medicine from the Generoso Pope  Foundation. David Pope of Bronxville, made the announcement at the hospital’s 90th anniversary celebration at Chelsea Piers in New York on Oct. 15.
According to Pope, it was something the Generoso pope Foundation could do for the community that would really make a difference – enable Lawrence Hospital to provide state-of-the-art health care to meet the constant and critical demand for emergency service.

The dinner at Pier Sixty marked the completion of the hospital’s successful campaign. In addition to $270,000 raised from the dinner, an additional 5.4 million was raised to support the renovation of the hospital. The campaign was co-chaired by Victor M. Samra Jr. and Charlote O’B. Kenny, both of Bronxville.

More than 500 dinner guests honored Roger G. Dvorak, who is retiring in December after serving as hospital president for 21 years. George E. Austin, chairman of the hospital’s board of governors, recognized Dvorak for his leadership and commitment to health care.

“During two decades of escalating demand for health care services and substantial advances in medical technology, Roger positioned the hospital as the eminent provider in the area. All the while, his sensitivity to patients and employees has been his hallmark,” Austin said.
